Blogtember { Day 3 } Useful Advice

Thursday, September 5, 2013
Hello Friends! I am linking up with Jenni from Story of my Life for { Blogtember }Its a daily blog challenge starting Tuesday Sept 3 with weekends off! The full list of topics is below but today we area talking about:

Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

The decisions you make today will effect you tomorrow; decide carefully:  My grandfather use to tell me this all the time. Little did I realize at the time how right he was. Every decision we make, has a ripple effect in the future. This is one of those lessons I am trying to teach my kids early. Its so important to know and understand.

The quickest way to a mans heart, is through his stomach: Both of my grandmothers use to tell me this. And you know what, they were right! Its amazing what a good home cooked meal can do for a man. But my grandmother Mary would also tell me its more than just the food. Its the dinner itself and having that intimate time together.

Always sort your clothes and read tags: For the longest time my family did my laundry. My first few years in college was just a mess when it came to my laundry. I was in Culinary school with uniforms that I could never get clean on my own. My ways of washing clothes then was to simply toss all the shit in the washer at the same time without any sorting.. many times overfilling the washer. I probably ruined thousands of dollars in clothes throughout the years. I am finally happy to say, I have it all figured out tags and sort!

Listen more, talk less: A friend always use to tell me this...and its amazing how more responsive your friends and family will be when you talk less and listen more. I think everyone just wants to know that you see them.. you hear them.. you feel them.. you notice them.. THEY MATTER.

Life is short, there is no time for things to be left unsaid: Another old friend told me this one time when I was crying over someone passing away without me saying my goodbyes. It broke my heart and this piece of advice might have been hard to hear in the moment but its another important one. If you love someone, say it. Say everything that is important and leave nothing because the next day is never promised to any of us.

Marriage is work: My grandfather and grandmother both use to tell me how hard marriage was. I thought they were full of crap. They seemed to get along pretty well for the most part and it looked to me like everything was just perfect. Not. I didn't fully understand the meaning of those words until I married and divorced my first husband and then married the love of my life. And I do adore my husband but its been a full time job keeping our lives balanced and our marriage together. Its totally work.

Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise: My best friend Shanna has and will still remind me that the bad nights will pass and everything will look better in the morning. Just get to the next day because it will be better.

Half the stuff you worry about doesn't even happen...why worry? Another quote from my Grandma Mary that I love. Its totally true. Do you find yourself worrying more than you need to? I do.. and for what? Most of the stuff getting me upset in the present never happens in the future. Try to worry less.

Never run faster than your guardian angels can fly. An old family friend told me a very long time ago. I guess I was in my early 20's ripping and running.. having close encounters with death..being risky in so many with depression during that time and I was just a mess..He told me I needed to slow down and never outrun my guardian angles because I am going to need their help for a very long time. I still love that quote.

Just because you ask for advice, doesn't mean you have to take it.  This I learned all on my own. I think many people think since you ask someone for advice, you have to take it. You don't. Asking is simply asking. I like to ask advice from my core family and friends and then make my own decision. Its ok to ask and move on to the next solution.
